Comfort Considerations for Choosing a Pilot Headset

Posted by Brendan O'Mara

Not only do they protect against hearing loss but headsets are now an invaluable tool for pilots and passengers.  While communication and hearing protection should be key considerations when choosing a headset and should not overlook comfort and fit.  The wide selection of headset models on the market provides pilots with a huge number of options.

Important Pilot Headset features to consider:

Weight: many pilots often ignored the headset weight when compared to other factors.  Electronic noise cancellation and the Bluetooth are frequently the focus of many decisions, however upgraded electronics equates to additional weight.  We suggest the trade-off between features and weight should be heavily considered.  How many hours do you fly your aircraft?  For that given time, how much does ENC provide?

Headband: the headband can be a considerable source of discomfort, even pain, for a pilot.  Look for spring-loaded headbands which are adjustable both in length and width, such as the CRAZEDpilot CP-1 aviation headset.  Make careful note of the head pad cushion for added comfort.

Ear cups: headset comfort is directly related to ear seal location and pressure.  This can also be affected by the design of the cup style.  The most common is the over the ear style which encircle users ear providing excellent noise reduction quality.  This is known to cut engine and propeller noise and are among some of the most comfortable headsets.

CRAZEDpilot recommends considering all the above details when choosing the best headset for you.  Does the headband clamp too tightly?  Does the headset feel heavy?  One of the best options out there that is a great value is our CRAZEDpilot CP-1ANR Noise Cancelling Headset.  This is our personal favorite headset, and we recommend it most frequently to our customers.

We hope the above information is helpful to you, and we appreciate your business in the future!
